WE REMEMBER BIRD

Among the many tributes paid to Charlie Parker’s memory was a tour by a sextet including musicians closely related to Bird. The leaders were the technically brilliant and enormously talented saxophonist Sonny Stitt, and trombonist J.J. Johnson, one of the fathers of bebop. Other players include Howard McGhee, Walter Bishop Jr., Tommy Potter and Kenny Clarke, who all played in Bird’s quintet at various times. The two shows here were filmed in Berlin and London in 1964.
